「be」を使った否定形

A1 英検3級 初級

be + not

説明

Use "be" + "not" to make a negative sentence. In speech, we often use "isn't" and "aren't".

For example, "She isn't at home." Here "She" is the subject, "isn't" means "is not", and "at home" tells us the place. Japanese often says "彼女は家にいません", so the meaning is similar. But English must keep the be verb and add "not". Do not use "don't" with adjectives or nouns.

例文

  • I'm not tired. 私は疲れていません。
  • She isn't at home. 彼女は家にいません。
  • They aren't ready yet. 彼らはまだ準備ができていません。
  • Are you busy now? 今、忙しいですか。
  • Is this seat free? この席は空いていますか。
  • We aren't late. 私たちは遅れていません。

よくある間違い

Japanese learners often omit "be" or use "don't" with adjectives.

Wrong: "I not hungry."

Right: "I'm not hungry."

Wrong: "She doesn't happy."

Right: "She isn't happy."

Use "am/is/are + not" with "be".
